Integrative Nutrition Health Coach: What is my scope of practice?

When you work with a health practitioner, understanding what you can expect from them, what is within their scope of practice, and what isn't, is very important so you can feel fully safe and comfortable when working together.

I am a Health Coach who qualified from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and I am also a Member of the UK Health Coaches Association.

Below is my scope of practice as outlined by the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. If you have any questions, please contact me on

  • I do work with people who are generally healthy with mild health concerns such as headaches, fatigue or sugar cravings.

  • I cannot claim to cure disease or work with people with complex advanced diseases such as cancer or kidney failure.

  • I do work with adults. I will ask for written authorisation from a legal guardian to work with children.

  • I cannot work with minors without written consent from a legal guardian.

  • I do suggest clients ask their medical doctor about alternatives to medication and get a second doctor’s opinion if they’re unsure.

  • I will never suggest that clients stop or change prescription medications or discontinue visits with their doctor.

  • I do suggest ways to “crowd out” caffeine, sugar, alcohol, tobacco, processed food and dairy (if applicable).

  • I will not suggest excluding major food groups or recommend extreme detox programs.

  • I do recommend superfoods, multivitamins, and mineral supplements under a doctor’s supervision.

  • I will not prescribe a regimen. Controversial supplements or high doses should be experimented only under the supervision of a medical doctor.

  • I do encourage clients do begin gentle, low-risk exercise changes such as walking.

  • I don’t encourage vigorous exercise without consulting a physician.

  • I do give people time to talk about their important relationships, and promote participation in social events to meet new people.

  • I will not suggest divorce or conflict with friends and family.

  • I do recommend that clients explore new hobbies and interests.

  • I will not recommend that clients quit their jobs.

  • I do advise clients to engage in self-reflection and experience nature.

  • I will not advise clients to change their religious affiliations.
